Settark>iark>ng the 8000 and 8100 serark>iark>es DVR's to record ark>iark>s relatvely straark>iark>ght forward. After havark>iark>ng turned on the DVR, ark>iark>f the hard-drark>iark>ve ark>iark>s unformatted or you have just ark>iark>nstalled your own, you wark>iark>ll be prompted to format the dark>iark>sk. ark>Iark>f you are seeark>iark>ng thark>iark>s prompt clark>iark>ck confark>iark>rm. Thark>iark>s format ark>iark>s necesarry ark>iark>n order for the DVR to be able to record at all. ark>Iark>f you do not receark>iark>ve thark>iark>s prompt, or another explaark>iark>nark>iark>ng ark>iark>t does not detect a hard-drark>iark>ve ark>iark>t means the DVR ark>iark>s prepared to contark>iark>nue.

 

Upon completark>iark>ng the hard-drark>iark>ve format you wark>iark>ll be left at the maark>iark>n screen. Rark>iark>ght clark>iark>ck the mouse hooked up to the DVR and you wark>iark>ll be prompted to log ark>iark>n to the DVR as sark>howark>n below ark>iark>n Fark>iark>gure 1. From System Setup the fark>iark>rst changes need to occur under the recordark>iark>ng menu. When selected you'll see the general recordark>iark>ng setup page(sark>howark>n below ark>iark>n Fark>iark>gure 5).

The settark>iark>ngs sark>howark>n above ark>iark>n Fark>iark>gure 5 are settark>iark>ngs you wark>iark>ll use for a basark>iark>c motark>iark>on recordark>iark>ng setup. ark>Iark>f you are lookark>iark>ng to set all of your channels to motark>iark>on recordark>iark>ng select all on the channel lark>iark>ne. Alternatark>iark>vely you may set channels up ark>iark>ndark>iark>vark>iark>dually.  The schedule lark>iark>ne ark>iark>s goark>iark>ng to allow you to set up the days one by one, or as sark>howark>n above you ark>canark> set all days of the week at once to the same schedule(recommended for ease of use). 00:00 to 24:00 means that thark>iark>s settark>iark>ng wark>iark>ll be applark>iark>ed for 12am through 11:59pm. Select the motark>iark>on box to the rark>iark>ght of the tark>iark>me schedule as sark>howark>n above and select save. 

Once you have saved these settark>iark>ngs clark>iark>ck the exark>iark>t button to return to the System Setup menu agaark>iark>n(Fark>iark>gure 4). Thark>iark>s tark>iark>me we wark>iark>ll select the "Detectark>iark>on" optark>iark>on ark>iark>n the menu. You ark>canark> see thark>iark>s menu below as well ark>iark>n Fark>iark>gure 6.

From thark>iark>s menu, although ark>iark>t ark>iark>s by default confark>iark>gured the way ark>iark>t needs to be for basark>iark>c motark>iark>on setup, you may adjust the <abbr rel="tooltip" data-orark>iark>gark>iark>nal-title="The sensitivity indicates how much motion needs to occur before the camera indicates that motion is being observed. The lower the number the less sensitive the camera is to detecting motion.">sensark>iark>tark>iark>vark>iark>tyabbr> of the motark>iark>on detectark>iark>on, as well as whark>iark>ch cameras wark>iark>ll be trark>iark>ggered to record. For example above we have channel 1 selected on the Channel lark>iark>ne. The channels that you select on the "recordark>iark>ng ch" lark>iark>ne are what wark>iark>ll begark>iark>n recordark>iark>ng when motark>iark>on ark>iark>s detected on channel 1. 

ark>Iark>f you clark>iark>ck the "setup" button next to regark>iark>on ark>iark>t wark>iark>ll sark>howark> you the actark>iark>ve area for motark>iark>on detectark>iark>on on the channel selected to the left of that lark>iark>ne. Below(Fark>iark>gure 7) you ark>canark> see thark>iark>s area setup. The area ark>iark>n green ark>iark>s actark>iark>ve motark>iark>on detectark>iark>on and the area ark>iark>n whark>iark>ch the camera ark>iark>mage sark>howark>s through cleanly wark>iark>ll dark>iark>sregard motark>iark>on when ark>iark>t comes through. You ark>canark> use thark>iark>s to block out a busy street ark>iark>n an ark>iark>mage or other sark>iark>mark>iark>lar sark>iark>tuatark>iark>ons.

From here you may now clark>iark>ck "Save" to confark>iark>rm your settark>iark>ngs. You may now exark>iark>t all the way out of the menu and back to the maark>iark>n screen.

From the sub menu choose the "Set Recordark>iark>ng" optark>iark>on. You have now successully set your DVR to record on motark>iark>on. When motark>iark>on does occur you wark>iark>ll see ark>iark>cons appear on the camera ark>iark>mage. The fark>iark>rst ark>iark>s a green "R" ark>iark>ndark>iark>catark>iark>ng that ark>iark>t has begun recordark>iark>ng, thark>iark>s wark>iark>ll only be there when motark>iark>on has trark>iark>ggered ark>iark>t or for a short perark>iark>od after motark>iark>on has ended ark>iark>n the ark>iark>mage. The other ark>Iark>con wark>iark>ll be a set of yellow arrows. These arrows ark>iark>ndark>iark>cate that motark>iark>on ark>iark>s currently occurark>iark>ng ark>iark>n the camera ark>iark>mage.
