Overview
Short summary on PPPoE internet connections and how to configure them to work with our DVRs.

PPPoE

PPPoE is a network protocol that is primarily used on DSL internet services. It is used mainly with with PPPoE-speaking DSL services where a PPPoE-speaking modem-routerconnects to the DSL service or when a DSL modem is connected to an ethernet router using an Ethernet cable. Basically it needs authentication or a log in info from the ISP for the modem with the router.

How does this affect Network Setups on our DVR's?

On PPPoE network setups, the DVR is configured in the same manner as any normal network setups. You can still change the DVR's network type to DHCP and set it up locally. However, for port forwarding to work, the modem will need to be bridged to a router. The router will also need to have the same log in information that the modem has, otherwise when bridging occurs, the customer will lose internet connection without the log in information of the modem.
