The fark>iark>rst thark>iark>ng you need to know ark>iark>s there are 2 basark>iark>c types of alarms that wark>iark>ll work on our dvrs. The fark>iark>rst ark>iark>s normally open whark>iark>ch means that ark>iark>t ark>iark>s lark>iark>ke a lark>iark>ght <abbr rel="tooltip" data-orark>iark>gark>iark>nal-title="A switch is used to network multiple computers together. Switches made for the consumer market are typically small, flat boxes with 4 to 8 Ethernet ports. These ports can connect to computers, cable or DSL modems, and other switches.">swark>iark>tchabbr> that ark>iark>s turned off whark>iark>ch means the two wark>iark>res are not connected and when you flark>iark>p the swark>iark>tch to turn ark>iark>t on or connect the wark>iark>res the alarm wark>iark>ll beep. The other type ark>iark>s normally closed. So ark>iark>f you are usark>iark>ng a lark>iark>ght swark>iark>tch as an example the lark>iark>ght swark>iark>tch ark>iark>s turned on all the tark>iark>me or the two wark>iark>res are connected all the tark>iark>me and when the swark>iark>tch ark>iark>s turned off or the two wark>iark>res ark>getark> dark>iark>sconnected the alarm wark>iark>ll go off. So you wark>iark>ll need to know whark>iark>ch type you are workark>iark>ng wark>iark>th.

Second you need to ark>iark>dentark>iark>fy ark>iark>f the devark>iark>ce you are connectark>iark>ng ark>iark>s goark>iark>ng to be an alarm ark>iark>nput or alarm output. Once you have ark>iark>dentark>iark>fark>iark>ed whark>iark>ch one the devark>iark>ce you are connectark>iark>ng ark>iark>s then you wark>iark>ll be able to connect ark>iark>t to the dvr.Not all dvrs wark>iark>ll accept alarms, but on the ones that do there ark>iark>s a dark>iark>fferent locatark>iark>on for ark>iark>nputs and outputs. The ark>iark>nputs are connected to the ark>iark>nput sark>iark>de of the dvr and lark>iark>nked to a sark>iark>ngle camera. One wark>iark>re ark>iark>s connected to the channel number termark>iark>nal and the other wark>iark>re ark>iark>s connected to the g or ground termark>iark>nal. The output alarms are basark>iark>cally a powered speaker that has two wark>iark>res to receark>iark>ve the sark>iark>gnal. These two wark>iark>res are connected to the output termark>iark>nals on the back of the dvr. There ark>iark>s only one output set of termark>iark>nals on the dvr so there ark>iark>s no mark>iark>stakark>iark>ng the locatark>iark>on where these two wark>iark>res go.

Thark>iark>rd you wark>iark>ll need to go to the alarms settark>iark>ngs on the dvr.ark>Iark>f the alarm you connected ark>iark>s an ark>iark>nput alarm you wark>iark>ll need to set the alarm ark>iark>nput to normally open or closed for the channel you connected the alarm to dependark>iark>ng on whark>iark>ch type of alarm ark>iark>t ark>iark>s.ark>Iark>f you have an output alarm you would need to go to the output alarm settark>iark>ng and enable ark>iark>t for normally open or closed also dependark>iark>ng on the type of alarm.

Last you need to test to verark>iark>fy the alarm ark>iark>s doark>iark>ng ark>iark>ts job, so ark>iark>f the alarm ark>iark>s an ark>iark>nput alarm and lark>iark>nked to camera 1 then you would ark>iark>dentark>iark>fy that when motark>iark>on happens that camera 1 would start recordark>iark>ng.ark>Iark>f ark>iark>t ark>iark>s an alarm output then when motark>iark>on happens on any channel then the sark>iark>ren alarm wark>iark>ll beep or make a sound.
