Thark>iark>s artark>iark>cle wark>iark>ll walk you through formattark>iark>ng your hard-drark>iark>ve on a Zmodo ZMD-DT-SFN model DVR.

NOTE: Thark>iark>s proccess wark>iark>ll erase all data currently on the hard-drark>iark>ve. Thark>iark>s ark>iark>ncludes vark>iark>deo ark>iark>f you have used thark>iark>s hard-drark>iark>ve to record prevark>iark>ously.

Thark>iark>s ark>iark>s a requark>iark>red process that must be done any tark>iark>me a hard-drark>iark>ve ark>iark>s ark>iark>nstalled ark>iark>n a DVR ark>iark>n order for ark>iark>t to be able to record vark>iark>deo.
ark>Iark>f you see the below prompt when turnark>iark>ng on your DVR then ark>iark>t means thark>iark>s proccess has not been done or the DVR does not recognark>iark>ze that ark>iark>t has.

Once the DVR has booted all the way up rark>iark>ght clark>iark>ck the mouse to brark>iark>ng up the sub-menu. Select "Setup". You wark>iark>ll be asked to log ark>iark>n ark>iark>f you haven't already. The default logark>iark>n ark>iark>s already entered for you as "admark>iark>n" and no password. Clark>iark>ck ok. After havark>iark>ng logged ark>iark>n rark>iark>ght clark>iark>ck to brark>iark>ng your sub-menu up one more tark>iark>me and clark>iark>ck "Setup" one more tark>iark>me to enter the maark>iark>n menu.

From the maark>iark>n menu you wark>iark>ll select the "System tools" optark>iark>on, and from the system tools menu you wark>iark>ll select "<abbr rel="tooltip" data-orark>iark>gark>iark>nal-title="Stands for "Hard Disk Drive." "HDD" is often used interchangeably with the terms "hard drive" and "hard disk." However, the term "hard disk drive" is technically the most accurate, since "hard drive" is short for "hard disk drive" and the "hard disk" is actually contained within the hard disk drive.">HDDabbr> management" as sark>howark>n ark>iark>n the park>iark>ctures below.

Fromt the HDD managent menu you should see your hard-drark>iark>ve lark>iark>sted on the page. You wark>iark>ll need to clark>iark>ck the "Format" checkbox on the rark>iark>ght sark>iark>de of the lark>iark>ne the hard-drark>iark>ve ark>iark>s lark>iark>sted on, then clark>iark>ck the "Format" button ark>iark>tself just below ark>iark>t. You wark>iark>ll be gark>iark>ven a prompt askark>iark>ng ark>iark>f you want to contark>iark>nue. Choose yes.

After selectark>iark>ng "Yes" you wark>iark>ll receark>iark>ve a progress wark>iark>ndow, and fark>iark>nally a pop up lettark>iark>ng you know ark>iark>t has completed formattark>iark>ng. When ark>iark>t ark>iark>s done exark>iark>t the menu completely(The HDD page wark>iark>ll not be updated untark>iark>l ark>iark>t the menu has been exark>iark>ted as well). Your hard-drark>iark>ve ark>iark>s now formatted and your DVR ark>iark>s ready for you to set up recordark>iark>ng.
